Amman, May 2 (Petra) – The "Urdun Jannah" domestic tourism program has seen "widespread" participation in its first month, as approximately 51,000 people took part in 1,422 trips and buses.
The program also involved 1,422 tour guides, 117 travel agencies, 81 restaurants, and 63 hotels and tourist camps, while an additional 445 people booked directly using their own vehicles.
In a statement to "Petra" Saturday, Dr. Ahmed Rifai, the program's director and spokesperson for the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, said the program attracted around 21,000 participants during the Labor Day holiday, which fell during the weekend.
Rifai noted these participants traveled on 600 buses, indicating the "high" demand for domestic tourism during holidays and special occasions.
He stated overnight stay programs in Petra also witnessed a surge in turnout during the month, as approximately 6,600 participants traveled on 344 buses, accompanied by 344 tour guides.
He said this growth reflects the growing demand for tourism programs and overnight stays in the Rose City of Petra.
On the target sites, he said: "The northern governorates and the Golden Triangle region (Petra, Wadi Rum, and Aqaba) recorded increased demand from participants. Newly established destinations such as Iraq al-Amir, Umm ar-Rasas, and Rahab also saw significant interest." He stated the remaining visitors were distributed among various tourist destinations across the Kingdom's governorates, "clearly demonstrating diversity of Jordan's tourism product and its capacity to attract different segments of the population." The program, supported by the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities and encompassing more than 60 tourist destinations nationwide, is part of the government's efforts to revive the sector and promote domestic tourism.
This vision contributes to supporting local communities, stimulating economic activity, and showcasing the Kingdom's rich tourist attractions.
Additionally, the program embodies a comprehensive approach to reviving the tourism sector by engaging its various components, which would positively impact the expansion of the economic effect and enhance local development throughout the Kingdom.
